Pool Time

When we moved to Virginia, one of the things the girls were most excited about was the pool at our apartment complex.  They both love to swim and couldn't wait to go swimming every day (that was their idea).  When we first got here, it rained almost every day, and we didn't get to the pool very much.  This past week, however, it has been hot and sunny and we have been to the pool several days in a row.  The girls LOVE it!

Elise is a pretty strong swimmer and can manage on her own with little supervision.
Even Grandma enjoys the pool

She is like a fish, swimming around everywhere, doing tricks, doing everything.
Anja believes she can swim, but she really can't.  Well, she can swim in that she can hold her breath and swim under water for a few seconds (she is a pretty good swimmer this way, she can make it across the width of the pool).
What she can't do is swim with her head above water or in anyway that would prevent her from drowning.
So, she needs constant and vigilant supervision.  And, because she can swim underwater (as long as someone is there to grab her the second she comes up for air), she refuses to wear a lifejacket because it inhibits her swimming.
Also, she has no fear of the water because she believes she can swim.  She will jump in without warning, slip out of this inner tube and into the water.  So, constant supervision.

But, as long as someone has their eyes and a hand on Anja, pool time is a great time for all of us!
